An incredible natural processed coffee, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Rocko Mountain reserve is the newest addition to our coffee stable. These coffee beans have been carefully selected from a group of smallholder farmers based around the Rocko Mountain in the Haricha Woreda, Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia.
Yirgacheffe is a town in Southern Ethiopia and the term is also used as a grade of coffee bean. Ethiopia itself has the broadest diversity of coffee bean types than any other country in the world, with each type having its own distinctive colour, shape and taste. The Yirgacheffe coffee bean delivers a strong floral aroma and intense citrus flavour and is grown at high altitude; typically over 2000 metres above sea level.
Coffee from Ethiopia is frequently referred to as "garden coffee" because it is usually grown in small plots and gardens without the use of any chemicals. It is planted next to crops and under shade trees to protect it from direct sunlight and allow the coffee bean to develop slowly.
This particular Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is natural processed, meaning that the coffee bean is left to dry out in the sun before being hulled. This natural method of processing is the most environmentally friendly way of removing the outer pulp, but is more labour intensive and risky.
We think in this particular case the risk was worth taking. With a cupping score of 90.5, this is the highest quality coffee we have offered to-date. If you'd really like to try some then you can get some here:
