Kenya AA Samburu Medium Roast
Kenya AA Samburu Medium Roast
Kenya is well known for its highly organised network of coffee cooperatives. This system produces remarkable consistency in growing methods, milling, and auctioning across a web of about 150,000 growers, the majority of which are small-scale farmers. The topography of high-altitude plateaus in major Kenyan coffee regions combined with acidic soil provides excellent growing conditions for Arabica coffee.
All Kenyan coffee is graded primarily by screen size (a measure of the size of the bean, larger being higher grade) immediately after milling; it then proceeds to the weekly auction at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange. The AA Grade is the top grade based on screening.
The Kenya profile is very unique and distinguishes itself easily from other origins. Intense citrus brightness all along the palate and notes of vanilla and bergamot merge with complex winey flavours. A medium body provides balance and grounding.

I first tried this medium roasted coffee last Christmas when I purchased a Christmas box from Pebble and Pine, Kenya AA Samburu Medium Roast was one of the coffees included. Since then I have used a further kilo during which time I have “dialled in” my coffee machine. Settling on the grind size and a few other things. Previously I mainly drank high roast, those beans are much drier when ground. The Kenya beans, fresh ground, have much more natural oil in the mix and tend to be a little more clumpy. I use a large 23 gram open basket, bigger than supplied with my Sage machine, because I like a large Americana. So once de-clumped and tamped, to avoid channelling, I have arranged for a 10 second infusion followed by a further 20 second pour I look to initially see a slender streak pour into the cup followed by a thicker twisting tiger tail spout as a basis for the espresso. It just needs a final top up of hot water and a careful stir. The coffee provides a lovely aroma and excellent crème on top. I like my coffee black but could imagine this coffee would be equally great with milk and could even be a fantastic basis for latte art for those that can achieve that level of skill. Thanks to Pebble and Pine for discovering and selling this coffee, I can highly recommend it.
Nice coffee not too strong, just the way I like it.
We normally buy a kilo of Excelso blend, but usually try a 200gm pack of a different blend.
This time it was the turn of Kenya AA Samburu to be trialled.
We really like this blend.......good flavour, very smooth, with a good strength but not bitter at all......we will be buying this one again.
Highly recommended if you like medium to strong coffee.
Delivery is very quick and the coffee is well worth the money, have not bought as good anywhere else
This coffee has a really rounded flavour - delicate but also very distinct in the different notes. Really delicious
