Kenya is well known for its highly organised network of coffee cooperatives. This system produces remarkable consistency in growing methods, milling, and auctioning across a web of about 150,000 growers, the majority of which are small-scale farmers. The topography of high-altitude plateaus in major Kenyan coffee regions combined with acidic soil provides excellent growing conditions for Arabica coffee.

All Kenyan coffee is graded primarily by screen size (a measure of the size of the bean, larger being higher grade) immediately after milling; it then proceeds to the weekly auction at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange. The AA Grade is the top grade based on screening.

The Kenya profile is very unique and distinguishes itself easily from other origins. Intense citrus brightness all along the palate and notes of vanilla and bergamot merge with complex winey flavours. A medium body provides balance and grounding.

Cup Characteristics: bright big citrus, lemon acidity, black currant, spice, nutmeg, great intense body/balance clean, chocolate, sugar cane aftertaste.

Arabica Varieties: SL-28, SL-34, Bourbon

Harvest Period: October-December; Fly Crop June-August

Milling Process: Washed, patio dried

Aroma: Nutmeg, berry

Flavour: Citrus, berry, notes of spice

Such lovely coffee

Such lovely coffee. Just the smell of the beans before you start grinding is a wonderful indication of what you are going to taste. Really well-rounded and flavoursome.

Great coffee

Having been to Samburu quite a few times, I was very keen to try this coffee and support them. I was not disappointed. Love it, just the right intensity for my taste, with lovely undertones of chocolate and spice. Very drinkable all day. My third order and I’m sure it won’t be my last.

Robust deep flavour, good all rounder.

I have to be honest, I am trying this coffee for the first time, just fancied something different having consumed the India Monsoon Malabar (which is DELICIOUS BTW!). The Taste is a little on the citrussie (not really a word as such but who cares right? lol). Nice Dark Rich Flavour though and perks me right up in the morning, I'd be a slug with retarded motion without Coffee! So, Does what it says on the tin, robust flavour, and good all round. I dare say Pebble and Pine would not sell coffee that disappoints, like all the supermarkets do.. You might as well grab a handfull of sand from the garden and drink that, it'd taste better then the dross you get in shops! So anyway, If you enjoy a Deep robust citrussie coffee, this one is your beasty.

The richest tasting, most luxurious coffee imaginable!

The Samburu Estate, Kenyan coffee beans are sensationally good and rich tasting & definitely great value considering the quality of what inside your cup! Highly recommended.

Best of the best

I think I've tried all of Pebble & Pine's different beans and they're all good, but this one is my favourite. I like my coffee strong and rich. Which this is and not too bitter.

A new favourite here! Haven't been able to source any Huehuetenango for a while so this Kenya coffee is perfect for me.

A lovely medium roast coffee which provides a rich flavour and pleasant aroma.

I first tried this medium roasted coffee last Christmas when I purchased a Christmas box from Pebble and Pine, Kenya AA Samburu Medium Roast was one of the coffees included. Since then I have used a further kilo during which time I have “dialled in” my coffee machine. Settling on the grind size and a few other things. Previously I mainly drank high roast, those beans are much drier when ground. The Kenya beans, fresh ground, have much more natural oil in the mix and tend to be a little more clumpy. I use a large 23 gram open basket, bigger than supplied with my Sage machine, because I like a large Americana. So once de-clumped and tamped, to avoid channelling, I have arranged for a 10 second infusion followed by a further 20 second pour I look to initially see a slender streak pour into the cup followed by a thicker twisting tiger tail spout as a basis for the espresso. It just needs a final top up of hot water and a careful stir. The coffee provides a lovely aroma and excellent crème on top. I like my coffee black but could imagine this coffee would be equally great with milk and could even be a fantastic basis for latte art for those that can achieve that level of skill. Thanks to Pebble and Pine for discovering and selling this coffee, I can highly recommend it.

Lovely smooth taste

We normally buy a kilo of Excelso blend, but usually try a 200gm pack of a different blend.

This time it was the turn of Kenya AA Samburu to be trialled.

We really like this blend.......good flavour, very smooth, with a good strength but not bitter at all......we will be buying this one again.

Highly recommended if you like medium to strong coffee.

First time I've had these beans and they make a great tasting coffee. I've tried lots of different beans from this company and they are all delicious. Won't order from anywhere else anymore as the coffee from Pebble & Pine is so good

A cracking medium roast

Another cracking roast. Beautiful rich crema, nice and smooth. Lovely rounded taste. One of the best so far from pine and pebble. Same excellent service.

Great aroma and flavour

First bought as Kenya AB out of stock. Not disappointed. Really enjoyed these beans and certainly lived up to expectation so ordered again. Great chocolatey aroma and intense flavour. Would definitely recommend.

I usually buy Honeybush as it's one of my favourites. As it was out of stock I bought this instead. Very nice flavour and almost as good.
