Las Morenitas is a standout natural processed coffee from Nicaragua, cultivated in the Cerro Bonetillo region of Jinotega. Part of the Las Nubes group owned by Victor Robelo, this farm has been dedicated to producing high-quality coffee since its acquisition in 2011. Spanning 134 hectares, Las Morenitas is home to carefully selected coffee varietals, including Caturra, Marsellesa, and both Red and Yellow Catuai. The farm sits at an altitude of 1000–1250 metres above sea level, creating the ideal conditions for slow coffee maturation and enhanced flavour development.
One of the key features of Las Morenitas is its commitment to innovation and sustainability. The introduction of Marsellesa, a hybrid of Hybrido de Timor and Villa Sarchi, has improved both cup quality and resilience against La Roya, a common coffee plant disease. Additionally, the farm operates under the WCR Verified program and is Rainforest Alliance certified, highlighting its dedication to responsible farming practices.
From harvest to processing, quality control is at the heart of Las Morenitas’ operations. Coffee cherries are hand-picked by workers who receive 35% above the market wage, ensuring skilled and experienced pickers return each season. Processing takes place at the farm’s own wet mill under the supervision of Production Manager Jimmy Valenzuela, with final quality checks by expert cupper Jeyson Chavarria. This meticulous attention to detail has earned Las Morenitas recognition in the prestigious Cup of Excellence, a testament to its exceptional coffee.
